How to clean nail polish from carpet

Nail polish looks great as an accessory to your finger and toe nails. It does not look so appealing when it is stained on your carpet. The most important thing to worry about with nail polish on the carpet is that you must not freak out and use all the chemicals you can find under your kitchen sink. Simply stay calm and use what you use to remove the polish from your nails… nail polish remover!

Using this method works when the stain is fresh, so do not leave it to soak or it may ruin your carpet.

To clean nail polish from the carpet follow Dave’s easy steps:

1. When using nail polish remover on a nail polish stain, do not simply pour the remover onto the stain. If you use too much it will soak through the carpet padding and may cause moulding or blemishing underneath the fibres.
2. Using an absorbent paper towel dunked in nail polish remover, dab the affected area. Use a blotting method rather than a rubbing method. You do not want to push the stain in further, or spread it.
3. Find a balance in the amount of nail polish removed you apply. Too much may soak through the carpet and too little may not remove the polish.
4. Once all the polish is removed, place more paper towels down on the stain to dry. You may need to neutralise the Nail polish and Nail polish remover with some water.
5. If this does not seem to be working, call a professional carpet service and ask about their prices for removing such a stain.

Dave’s Tip:

Use a window cleaner such as Windex on your nail polish stain if the nail polish remover does not work.
