How to remove mildew from carpet

1. Wear a mask.
2. Vacuum the mildew first and throw away the vacuum cleaner bag once you're done.
3. Once you vacuum the carpet fibres, mix a solution of 1/2 teaspoon of liquid soap with a cup of water, lukewarm water.
4. Take the solution and sponge it in to the carpet fibres, soak it well.
5. Once that's done, add more water to the mix and douse the area with it.
6. Take a cloth and blot the area dry.
7. Take two tablespoons of ammonia and mix it with a full cup of water.
8. Blot rinse this solution in to the area.
9. After you put down the ammonia solution, let it sit in the carpet fibres for about an hour to give it a chance to kill the remaining residual mildew.
10. After an hour, continue soaking the carpet fibres and blotting it dry.
11. Once the carpet fibres are blotted dry, you want to put an electric fan in the area with an electric heater to circulate the air as much as possible. This will allow it to dry as fast as it can and also help to prevent the mildew from regrowing before the stain has had a chance to dry.
