Water stains appear rusty and a high tide brown line colouring may come through. Water stains affect fabrics as they break down the dyes and cause discolouration. Stains on carpets become the brown colour because of impurities from the backing or the underfelt.
To clean a water stain from carpet:
1. Mop up excess spillage.
2. Wipe the stain with cool water.
3. Cover this area with an absorbent cloth, tissues or a pad of blotting paper.
4. Weigh down the absorbing aid with books or another type of heavy object.
5. Dry quickly with the aid of fan heaters or vacuum exhaust.
6. This causes the stain to wick or dissolve through to the absorbent material used.
7. Repeat if necessary.
Dave’s Tip:
A dash of vinegar may help if necessary on the stained carpet.
